Here is a list of many of the importers and so called breeders we should all be aware of. If you are planning on getting a bulldog, please do your research first. Many of these websites have changed names but are still owned by the same terrible people.

Many of these are being investigated but not shut down yet. Todd Howard is still doing business!!!!!

Please repost and keep it going..add any other I may have left off the list.

(I got this very valuable information from some of the meetup groups we are with)

Importer - Todd Howard @ Bigbulldogs.com
Importer - Danielle @ Epuppypro.com
Importer - Melanie @ Lobopuppies.com

here in the chicago area, we have a broker/breeder by the name of Ray Duckmanton, we have used him before we knew where he got his dogs from, and to say the lease he is not a good one! Our bulldog passed away at just two years old. He buys bulldogs and then resells them. Although he is not a importer that I know of, he is definately a broker. he gets most of his dogs from Steve Kruse out of West Point Iowa. We also tried to contact him and he would not return our calls or our letters to contact him.... I wouldnt buy from either of these men. Steve Kruse sells to almost every pet store in the Chicago area, and his kennel name is Stonehenge Kennels. Ray Duckmanton uses the kennel name of Ray-Lynn Kennels.... BAD BAD people!

I have to disagree w/this post; I know that I'm replying to this a year late but I was trying to find Ray Duckmonton of Ray-Lynn Kennels and came across this post. I bought a Bully from them on 1998 when I lived in Chicago; Larry was the best bulldog, and dog in general, that I have ever owned. He was breed standard perfect and lived to be 9 1/2 years old. I think the bulldog breed has been bastardized since the time I got Larry, there WAY too many backyard breeders and people want a cheap English Bulldogs.
When we went to look at their dogs he showed us puppies and I asked if he had a white Bulldog, he said he did but he was an older puppy (9 mos old) and had an accident. Larry had been running with a stick and poked his eye out. He advised us he was going to keep him if nobody was interested; it was love at first sight. Next thing I know I was driving back to Naperville w/LArry in the back seat.
I'm sorry to hear about your pup; it sad when we lose our furry family members. But sometimes even the breeders can't help if there is something genetically wrong with a dog.

Rita, I sent you a email regarding Mr Duckmanton and Steve Kruse. And just so you are aware, Mr Kruse no longer owns the kennel name Ray-Lynn kennels...

looking at this site, and knowing what i know about breeding (which admittedly isnt EVERYTHING im still new) but knowing what i know about this breed...this "lady" is taking advantage of peoples need to have something different at the expense of what is undesireable. selling to unknowing people. i HATE it when people try to take advantage of others. 4500 for a black puppy. disgusting. and so many puppies! and look! their nails arent even kept trimmed! sad.

22 puppies! and ALL of the smaller ones have severe fault noses.

I have to add a message about Ray Duckmanton, because I feel he shouldn't be on this list. Admittedly, I didn't know much about the process when we got Frank. It was my ex's idea--and I'm thoroughly glad he picked Ray. Frank has been extremely healthy - free of all the nightmare scenarios you hear about in bulldogs - and has always had the kindest gentlest disposition. Had I known then what I know now, I would have insisted we freeze some of his 'seed' to make more just like him (we had him fixed at 6 months).

At 11.5+ years, he looks like he's 4 or 5 (a little white around the muzzle), and still doesn't snore or drool. Great, clear breathing. And a VERY healthy heart. Trim and solid as he nears 12--you can't ask for much more than that!

I just have to point out that just because you get a healthy dog from a breeder does not necessarily mean they are a good breeder. You might have just gotten lucky. Even the filthiest, most rotten puppymill/BYB in the world can still turn out a few "perfectly healthy" dogs. This is a short list of some of the most important things to look for when shopping for a breeder:

Do they...

...provide a health guarantee?

...know the breed?

...only breed the female once a year (or less) and retire them once they've bred "X" number of litters?

...have the puppies sold before they are born?

...question you as much as you question them?

...allow you to visit their facility? If so, look at the overall condition of all animals, not just the puppies. How does the breeder interact with them? Do they appear clean, healthy & happy?

Are they registered with the AKC (US) & have registration papers for their litters?

Check their vet references and get results on any genetic testing being done.
